This morning’s Habitat S/S 2012 press preview showed a well-considered change of direction by the brand. The new collection is commercial, considered and very fresh – based on the cosmopolitan cities of Stockholm, Berlin, London and Paris but taking design details and a general air from these tastemaking destinations rather than copying their styles wholesale.
I blogged about the styling details at Habitat’s last press preview, which was held just before the company was bought out by Home Retail, and the details at this event were just as striking. Highlights included Pantone swatch-clad stairs, a vintage Americana soda machine, and solid metal weights and measures to adorn the vintage-inspired writing desk. Cute little tokens represented each city referenced in the roomset – from miniature German flags to tiny wooden Dutch clogs.
